The interior of the Electric references the cinema's long history. Throughout the auditorium is leather seating, footstools and tables for food and drink -- generally more space for a more comfortable viewing experience. In addition, two 2-seater sofas are also available at the rear of the theatre, perfect for a romantic night out.
Today we visit London's Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill, go for breakfast at the Tabernacle, lunch at the electric diner and watch a movie at the Electric Cinema Notting Hill. I walk through the antiques market through to the street food & fruit + veg section and then check out the new designers and second hand / vintage & clothing parts. The Electric in Birmingham is the UKs oldest working cinema. It screened its first film on 27th December 1909, and has been providing various forms of entertainment to the public ever since. It has been brought from a state of dereliction to one of the most adored cinemas in the country. Now a fully-functioning picture house and a licenced bar, the establishment is rich in history and prided by the city. We were granted the opportunity to take an inside look at the venue with the man who made The Electric what it is today, and find out just why it matters so much that places like this are kept alive. Take a trip to London's oldest cinema - it's unique!
July 6th 2011: Noel Gallagher held a press conference at Electric Cinema in Portobello, London and announced the forthcoming release of two solo albums. The first one will be out 17th October. Noel and his band, the High Flying Birds, will start touring right after. That's when he (and wife Sarah) came out of the venue: me, Gene and a very few other life-long fans were waiting for him and he signed Gene's vinyl copy of Be Here Now and...my wrist! Hope you enjoy seeing the Chief this close...I still can't believe I met him! :)

I visit London's Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill. Lunch at Chef Yotam Ottolenghi restaurant and deli in Notting hill on the junction of Westbourne Grove and Ledbury Road. Then after lunch watching buskers and street performers at the market I visit the cinema. The Electric Cinema is one of London's oldest cinemas. Having the Electric diner next door means they serve amazing food and drink to enjoy with a movie. Starting and finishing at Notting Hill Gate tube station which is nearest the market. This is authentic Western Electric cinema speaker from 1928, as presented by Mr. Joe Roberts of Silbatone Acoustics at the 2011 High End Show in Munich, Germany. From Wikipedia: "It is a wide-audio-range horn loudspeaker estimated to be nearly 50% efficient, thus allowing a cinema to be filled with sound from a 3-watt amplifier. This was an important breakthrough in 1929 because high-powered audio valves were not generally available back then." We feel truly fortunate to have been able to listen to and enjoy this magnificent piece of audio history. (Note: This is authentic in-room sound as recorded with a Sony handycam; no enhancements used.)
